Los Angeles County Players Score Big Wins!

SACRAMENTO – Maria Hernandez loves playing Scratchers® for fun - but not just any Scratchers. The long-time lottery player says she sticks to playing crossword Scratchers because they take more time to play. Plus, she can get her money’s worth even if she doesn’t win. Hernandez recently got more than her money’s worth when she scratched a $10 Mystery Crossword Scratchers and won $750,000! At first, her husband didn’t believe that she had won. “She’s won a lot of money before,” her husband jokingly said, “Just to find out she didn’t actually win.” The lucky couple said they plan on using their winnings to buy a house. Hernandez’s ticket was purchased at Pacos Liquor, which is located at 5048 East 3rd Street in Los Angeles.

The winning didn’t stop with the Hernandez family. Three other winners in the Los Angeles area also hit it big recently on California Lottery Scratchers.

*Gustavo Herrera won $1 million playing the $10 Holiday Magic Scratchers! Herrera told us that he doesn’t have the best eye-sight, so when he couldn’t find his magnifying glass, he called on his son to check the ticket for him. “I thought it was a joke when he said I won a million dollars,” Herrera said. The lucky ticket was purchased at Freeman Market, which is located at 11733 Freeman Avenue in Hawthorne.

*Emma Sandoval won $750,000 on a $10 Mystery Crossword Scratchers. The ticket was purchased at Angel’s Gas and Mart, located at 1248 South Wilmington Avenue in Compton. The mother of two said she plans on using her winning to buy a house.

*Finally, Jimmy Nguyen won $2 million playing our $20 Crossword Deluxe Scratchers. His ticket was purchased at Gallop Liquor, which is located at 8950 Bolsa Avenue in Westminster.

These winners respectfully decline to speak with the media and declined the use of a photo with this announcement. No additional information about them will be released.

All California Lottery Scratchers games, come with a second chance to win a great prize. The Lottery’s 2nd Chance Program offers players a chance to win weekly cash prizes of up to $25,000. Players enter their non-winning Scratchers tickets on our website and are automatically entered in the weekly pool drawing. A total of $100,000 will be given away every week.

This is all part of the Lottery’s continued effort to give out more prizes, create more winners and earn more money for California public education.
