Ami Chand has a very disciplined approach to playing the Lottery. Every week, twice a week, he spends $5 at his local retail spot. With that money he buys $2 worth of MEGA Millions tickets, $2 worth of SuperLotto Plus® tickets, and $1 on a Fantasy 5 ticket. On February 26, one of his MEGA Millions tickets turned out to be a big winner.
But Ami only recently discovered that. In fact, he came into the Lottery’s Santa Ana District Office late Friday, minutes before the doors closed, to claim his prize for matching five of six numbers – a hefty $630,786. He only found out about his win hours before.
He purchased his winning ticket at Gonzales Liquor Market, which located at 1845 West Katella Avenue in Anaheim (Orange County). The ticket successfully matched the numbers 6, 7, 13, 43 and 15, missing only the Mega number of 7.
Chand says after he buys his tickets, he puts them into a box he checks every so often, maybe once a month. He was at home on Friday checking winning numbers on www.calottery.com when he noticed he had matched five of six. Then he got excited…and asked his kids to double-check his ticket for him. “I was very happy to see that I was the only five of six winner,” he said, noting that the prize amount was much larger than he expected.
Chand was laid off from his job about two years ago and has only been working part-time, so the win couldn’t come at a better time for him and his family. “This is going to relieve my stress,” he said. He plans to pay off his bills and his house and also set aside college money for his 13 and 18 year-old children.
