Eric Johnson is a creature of habit when it comes to how he plays the California Lottery. He plays MEGA Millions and SuperLotto Plus® every week. He spends $20 on an advance play every Friday. He always selects his own numbers. But the one thing he wasn’t prepared for was winning BIG.
Johnson discovered on Friday that he was one of two lucky Lottery players in Orange County who matched five of six numbers in the February 5 draw, making his share of the prize worth $245,066. The other winning ticket, which was sold at the 7-Eleven located at 818 West 17th Street in Santa Ana (Orange County), has yet to be claimed.
Johnson told us he was making his usual Friday trek into the retail location to buy his tickets and check his tickets from the previous week when the magic happened. “I thought I had won $245,” Johnson explained. He then saw that he needed to file a claim and realized he had left off three zeroes. What he shouted in the store after realizing the actual amount of his prize was not fit to print.
The winning ticket was purchased at Fast Check Market, which located at 22902 Los Alisos Boulevard in Mission Viejo (Orange County). Johnson’s ticket successfully matched the numbers 44, 26, 10, 5 and 2, missing only the Mega number of 46.
He said he called his best friend first, and after having to convince him that he was telling the truth, Johnson told us his friend said “Well I guess you’re buying dinner.” Johnson also plans to buy a house.
