On Saturday, September 10 one Powerball® ticket sold in California matched five of the six winning numbers to win $1,301,956 (before federal taxes). Ron Hilton wasted no time staking his claim to that prize. Hilton walked into the California Lottery’s Sacramento District Office the following Monday morning holding the winning Powerball ticket.
Hilton told us he was still in bed Sunday morning (Sept. 10) when he decided to grab his phone and check the winning Powerball numbers. “I had the screen up on my phone that showed the winning amount. I think I looked at it at least 30-40 times. Then I called my friend Mike,” Hilton said. “I had to jump out of the shower and drive an hour to verify it,” Mike said laughing. The two friends were all laughs as they relived that day. The only downside according to Hilton was that he JUST missed winning the whopping $205 million jackpot. Hilton’s ticket matched the numbers 3-17-49-55-68; but the winning red Powerball number was 8 and Hilton had the number 6. So close!
Hilton told us that before this, he had never won anything big playing the lottery – but he had won enough little prizes to keep him interested. Now that he hit it big, Hilton said he’s going to keep playing and “ride that wave!” Hilton purchased the winning ticket at Vaca Valley Travel Center, which is located at 151 Crocker Drive in Vacaville (Solano County).
